A relaxed loop through Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing Rock, a working tea garden, and the Japanese Peace Pagoda. A ropeway ride can be added on, subject to waiting charges on the day.
HMI's mountaineering museum and the Peace Pagoda give the day some substance beyond sightseeing.

Warm layers even in summer (mornings and shaded viewpoints are cold), comfortable walking shoes, a light rain layer outside the dry season, your ID, and a camera or phone with some charge to spare.
Darjeeling is clearest and driest from March to May and again from September to December — this is when views and roads are at their best. June to August brings the monsoon, with heavier rain and a higher chance of cloud cover at viewpoints.
